I bill that would allow adults to ride a motorcycle without a helmet is making it way around the Louisiana Legislature. The person would have to have health insurance and $100,000 in liability insurance to not wear one.
After I heard this I got to thinking. Why am I required by state law to wear a seat belt in my car and a motorcycle rider has the option to wear a helmet. Now don’t get me wrong. I believe that you should wear a seat belt and helmet for your personal protection. If anything the law should be the other way around where riders are required to wear a helmet.
But, should the government be telling us we are required to wear a seat belt in our personal car? I have never been in favor in the seat belt law simply because I do not think they should require us by law. Lets say that today that law was thrown out. Would I still wear my mine? Yes I would for my personal safety.
It should all be a personal choice. It is after all the safety your self that is at risk.
